目的狀語從句：從句部分是用以補充說明主句中謂語動詞發(fā)生的目的的狀語從句。

表示目的狀語的從句可以由that, so that, in order that, lest, for fear that, in case等詞引導；

目的狀語從句的謂語常含有may, might, can, could, should, will, would等情態(tài)動詞。

例如：

You must speak louder so that /in order that you can be heard by all.

He wrote the name down for fear that(lest) he should forget it.

Better takes more clothes in case the weather is cold.

引導目的狀語從句常用的連詞有：

Say it louder(so)that everyone can hear you.

大聲說，以便大家都能聽到你。

I am telling you that lest you should make a mistake.

我告訴你這一點，以免你搞錯。

學習目的狀語從句應注意以下：

（1）目的狀語從句中常含有can,could,may,might,should等情態(tài)動詞。

I got up early so that I could catch the first bus.

我起得很早，目的是為了趕上頭班公共汽車。

（2）在口語中so可以引導目的狀語從句。

We'll sit nearer the front so we can hear better.

我們坐的靠前一點，因此，我們聽得清楚一點。

【注意】in order that與in order to的區(qū)別：

in order that+從句

in order to+動詞原形 （ in order to后面加的那個不叫目的狀語從句，叫目的狀語）

in order to 為了，后接動詞原形，做目的狀語。

i get up early in order to catch the early bus.

in order that 為了，后接從句，做目的狀語。

i get up early in order that i can catch the early bus.

目的狀語從句的一個特點：

由于目的都是未來的行為，所以從句中一般用表示未來可能性時態(tài)，

當然還可以用will,would,can,等

目的狀語從句可以由表示“為了， 以便”的so that(有時省略so)， in order that和表示“以免， 以防”的lest， for fear that， in case引導(lest， for fear that后的目的狀語從句一般要用“可以省略的should＋動詞原形”的虛擬語氣形式； in case后的目的狀語從句多用虛擬語氣， 但也可用陳述語氣)。例如： They set out early that they might arrive in time. 他們早點動身， 以便及時到達。// She takes notes carefully in class so that she may use them when she reviews her lessons after class. 她在課堂上認真記筆記， 以便她能在課后很好地復習功課。// He shouted at the top of his voice in order that he might be heard. 他盡力大聲叫喊， 以便別人能聽見。// I will not make a noise lest I (should) disturb you. 我不出聲， 以免打攪你。// He is working hard for fear that he (should) fail. 他認真學習， 以免考不及格。// Take your umbrella in case it rains. 帶上雨傘， 以防下雨。

如果表示“為了， 以便”的目的狀語從句的主語與主句的主語相同， 可用in order to或 so as to取代該目的狀語從句， 注意體會以下例句： He hurried through his work in order to catch the train. 他匆匆干完手中的活， 為的是能趕上火車。// I sent the plans in order for you to study them fully before the meeting. 我寄上這些計劃以使你會前充分研究一下。 // The desks are kept some distance apart, so as to prevent cheating. 這些書桌都隔著一段距離擺放， 以防作弊。 // I came so early as to catch the first train. 我起得早， 以便能趕上頭班火車。

［考題1］ I’d like to arrive 20 minutes early ____ I can have time for a cup of tea. (2005北京)

［解析］ so that表示希望實現的目的。

［考題2］ Roses need special care ____ they can live through winter. (2004)

A. because B. so that C. even if D. as

［答案］ B

［解析］ so that表示希望實現的目的。

［考題3］ Leave your key with a neighbor ____ you lock yourself out one day. (2007北京)

A. ever since B. even if C. soon after D. in case

［答案］ D

［解析］ “you lock yourself out one day”是應該避免出現的結果， 下劃線處應選用in case， 引導目的狀語從句, 表示“以免……”。

［考題4］ I shall stay in the hotel all day ____ there is news of the missing child.(2000上海春)

A.in case B.no matter C.in any case D.ever since

［答案］ A

［解析］ 題干意為： 我將整天在旅店里呆著， 以防有丟失孩子的消息。本題應選in case引導目的狀語從句表示“以防……”。
