“陰雨山塘”，大家一聽到肯定知道這是什么?就是蘇州的山塘街了。
就在春節(jié)來臨之既，我和我的姐姐們來到了山塘街。放眼望去，只見山塘街四周由湖水概括，幾條小船在湖面上慢慢地行駛，船上的游客看著這美景，深深的陶醉了。小橋流水，亭臺樓閣，有一種古色古香的氣息，仿佛到了仙境一般，詩情畫意，讓人感覺飄飄欲仙。
我漫步在河邊，微風輕輕地吹著，湖面泛起了一圈圈漣漪，好像一絲涼意向我們涌來。我便情不自禁地贊嘆：“啊!這兒真美呀!”
繼續(xù)向縱深行進，好像到了一個古老的年代。地面鋪著破舊的石磚，兩旁是一寫古舊的門面，街道一邊還擺著一些小攤位，上面放著一些小飾品和一些樂器。讓人看得眼花繚亂，目不暇接。

吃完了龍須糖，該在這兒留個紀念。突然，我看見一個攤位的桌子上放著一個牌子——“葫蘆里刻字”，我就對姐姐們說：“我們買四個葫蘆留作紀念吧!”大家連連說好。接過手中的小葫蘆，心里暖洋洋的。讓我想到一句話：“物雖小，情意重?！?/p>

山塘街始建于唐代寶歷年間，公元820xx年白居易奉命到蘇州任刺史。上任不久，他坐了轎子到虎丘去，看 到附近的河道淤塞，水路不通，回衙后，立即找來有關(guān)官吏商量，決定在虎丘山環(huán)山開河筑路，并著手開鑿一條山塘河。它東起閶門渡僧橋附近，西至虎丘望山橋，長約7里，故俗稱“七里山塘到虎丘”。這條河在閶門與運河相接。在河塘旁筑堤，即山塘街。山塘河的開鑿和山塘街的修建，大大便利了灌溉和交通，這一帶成了熱鬧繁華的市井。蘇州百姓非常感激白居易，他離任后，百姓即把山塘街稱之為白公堤，還修建了白公祠，以作紀念。
山塘街一頭連接蘇州的繁華商業(yè)區(qū)閶門，一頭連著花農(nóng)聚集的虎丘鎮(zhèn)和名勝虎丘山，所以，自唐代以來它一直是商品的集散之地，南北商人的聚集之處。清乾隆年間，著名畫 家徐揚創(chuàng)作的《盛世滋生圖》長卷(也稱《姑蘇繁華圖卷》)，畫了當時蘇州的一村、一鎮(zhèn)、一城、一街，其中一街畫的就是山塘街，展現(xiàn)出“居貨山積，行云流水，列肆招牌，燦若云錦”的繁華市井景象。曹雪芹在《紅樓夢》第一回中也把閶門、山塘一帶稱為“最是紅塵中一二等富貴風流之地”。
蘇州是個水鄉(xiāng)，河道多，橋多，而山塘街是最具蘇州街巷特征的典型。它中間是山塘河，山塘街則緊傍河的北側(cè)，通過一座座石橋與另一側(cè)的街道連接。山塘街上店鋪、住家鱗次櫛比，這里的房屋多為前門沿街，后門臨河，有的還建成特殊的過街樓，真是朱欄層樓，柳絮笙歌。山塘街又是一條典型的水巷，河上裝載著茉莉花、白蘭花及其它貨物的船只來來往往，游船畫舫款款而過。
山塘街可以分為東西兩段，東段從閶門渡僧橋起至半塘橋，這一段大多是商鋪和住家，各種商店一家挨著一家，東段又以星橋一帶最為熱鬧繁華。山塘街的西段指半塘橋至虎丘山。這一段漸近郊外，河面比東段要開闊，河邊或綠樹成蔭、芳草依依，或蒹葭蒼蒼、村舍野艇。這里有普濟橋、野芳浜等勝景，還有“五人墓”、“葛賢墓”等古跡?！拔迦四埂卑苍嶂髂╊伵屙f等五位義士，他們?yōu)榱丝棺h魏忠賢閹黨逮捕東林黨人周順昌，率眾市民暴動，最后慷慨就義。再向西行，就到了有“吳中第一勝景”之稱的虎丘山，峰巒塔影，山林氣象更使人神往。山塘街一向為歷代文人墨客和朝野名士所鐘愛，曾留下了許多吟詠之作。而清乾隆帝對山塘街則是分外青睞，他寫的詩中，直接提到山塘的就有9首。1761年乾隆在太后七十大壽時，特意在北京萬壽寺紫竹院旁沿玉河仿建了一條蘇州街，而這條蘇州街就是以山塘街為藍本的。1792年，乾隆帝又在御苑清漪園(即后來的頤和園)萬壽山北建造了一條蘇州街，也還是山塘街的翻版。這兩條蘇州街后來在戰(zhàn)火中被毀，1986年在頤和園又重建了蘇州街，使七里山塘的風貌再次重現(xiàn)于京華。
山塘街歷來還是舉行豐富多彩的民俗活動的地方，什么龍舟賽會以及各種廟會、節(jié)會、花會往往都在此間進行。山塘街還被寫進不少民間傳說和文藝作品之中，蘇州彈詞《玉蜻蜓》、《三笑》、《白蛇傳》就都寫到它?！队耱唑选分薪鹳F升與青年女尼志貞就是在山塘的法華庵里結(jié)識的;《三笑》中唐伯虎得遇秋香，所謂“三笑留情”發(fā)生在虎丘，而秋香下山歸舟，唐寅雇小船追蹤至無錫賣身為奴，那“追舟”一回書的地點，也就在山塘河里。

山塘貍貓(玩具) 山塘貍貓——姑蘇七里山塘的傳說相傳明朝初立，話說虎丘山是由老虎鎮(zhèn)守的，有一天獅子來到虎丘挑戰(zhàn)老虎，要把虎丘山占為己有，老虎為保住虎丘山，請來七只貍貓(力大無比的神獸)幫忙，它們一起合力打跑了獅子并把它趕到了如今的蘇州新區(qū)，即獅子山(故有獅子回頭望虎丘一說)為了防止獅子再次來襲 。老虎請七只貍貓鎮(zhèn)守在山塘街每一里路的橋頭。因此“七里山塘”又有“七貍山塘”之說。
