準備合適的儲能體統(tǒng)或者裝置，用來儲蓄并使用斷續(xù)的能源，比如太陽能，風能和潮汐能，是很重要的。而其中的可充電電池是不可或缺的部件。自從1991年的商業(yè)化到現(xiàn)在，鋰離子電池已經(jīng)實現(xiàn)了便攜電子設備的技術革命，并主導著電池市場。其原因是鋰離子電池的高比容率（用輕的重量）和高能量密度（用小的體積）（相較于其他可充電電池而言）。技術上來看，鋰離子電池已經(jīng)被廣泛的檢驗并且是現(xiàn)代社會的關鍵技術。但是，對鋰離子電池的需求的不斷增長和引入到汽車帶來了一些問題：鋰資源的短缺和高成本，安全的技術問題，最短充電時間，循環(huán)壽命等。因為鋰離子的來源元素鋰并不是很充裕，預計原材料的開發(fā)成本在未來會變得越來越大。更不幸的是，現(xiàn)存的鋰離子電池并不能很好的應用在中等或者大規(guī)模的系統(tǒng)，比如電車只能短距離行駛因為其低能密度，低充電率，還有安全問題[2,3,4]。

近些年，無數(shù)研究已經(jīng)開展去尋找替代品，著手于開發(fā)可以大規(guī)模能源儲蓄而且成本較低的電池裝置。有著和鋰離子電池一樣的工作機制，但是資源豐富和使用低成本元素，比如鈉和鉀。最近，鈉離子電池的研究正積極開展。因為如果可以取代鋰的話，使用的鈉成本優(yōu)勢和資源充裕從此會改變鋰離子電池的問題。盡管如此，現(xiàn)階段的鈉離子電池的性能依然低于鋰離子電池，而有待進一步的研究改進。
