一篇作文的題目翻譯成“命題”更加切題，同樣一個命題，在不同的考生眼里可以develop 出不同的 thesis statement ( 中心論點)，每一篇托福獨立性寫作必須有一個中心論點，而且只有一個中心論點。通常，一篇獨立性寫作的中心論點分解成三個分論點：general idea (分論點)，由三個段落去論述;在段落中，分論點的稱呼是 topic sentence (主題句);這三個包含有主題句的`段落合稱為 body (正文)。正文中的三個分論點又由另外一個重要的作文要素 supporting details ( 支撐細節(jié))去闡述。這便是托福獨立性寫作的核心三要素：中心論點，分論點和支撐細節(jié)。

the course not only had interesting content but also a very inspiring teacher. my art history professor had a lot of enthusiasm for her subject, and she was able to convey that enthusiasm to her students. even though i am in a different field, this professor was a sort of role model for me. it is always inspiring to see people who love their work, no matter what it is. as i pursue my career as an engineer, i often think of this professor and hope that i bring the same enthusiasm to my own work.
art history should be a required course for everyone because it teachers you about so many things. i learned not only about art,but also about history, religion, literature, and mythology. these are subjects i didn’t learn about in my engineering classes, so it was a wonderful opportunity for me.
studying art history taught me some things about the history of engineering. in old paintings, i saw how buildings and bridges were built in the past. i saw how cities were planned. i realized that i could learn about my own field in different ways.
